Features

Everything the PDF-to-Word tool does

A completely private, secure way to turn a PDF back into an editable document.

Paragraphs and page breaks

Groups the PDF's text lines into paragraphs and keeps a page break between pages. Images, tables and complex layouts are not recreated.

100% Editable Output

Generates standard Microsoft Word compatible .docx documents ready for edit and styling.

Fast Local Processing

Processes pages in seconds entirely within your web browser's memory.

Private by Design

No servers involved. Your confidential documents never leave your physical machine.

Offline Capable

Works completely without an internet connection once the page is loaded.

Convert PDF to an editable Word document

PDFNEO reads the selectable text in your PDF and writes it into a .docx file you can open in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Apple Pages. Text is grouped into paragraphs, page by page, with page breaks kept between pages. Everything happens in your browser.

What converts well and what does not

This is a text-extraction converter, not a full layout reconstructor. That makes it fast and private, but it has limits you should know about before you start:

  • Works well: reports, letters, contracts, articles and ebooks exported from Word, Google Docs or similar software.
  • Not recreated: images, tables as real Word tables, shapes, multi-column layouts and background graphics.
  • Tables: if the data you need is in a table, try PDF to Excel instead.
  • Plain text only: if you just need the words, PDF to Text is simpler.

Scanned PDFs and OCR

A scanned PDF is a picture of a page, so it has no text to extract. Turn on the optional OCR fallback and PDFNEO will run text recognition on pages that have no selectable text, then add the recognised text to the Word file. Choose the language that matches your document for better results.

OCR uses the open-source Tesseract engine in your browser. The first time you use it, the engine and language data are downloaded from a public content delivery network. Those are the OCR software's own files; your PDF is not uploaded. Accuracy depends on scan quality and is best on clean, printed text.

To make a scanned PDF searchable without converting it, use OCR PDF.

Privacy and supported browsers

The PDF stays on your device while it is read and the .docx is generated. Read client-side vs cloud PDF tools for why that matters, or see how PDFNEO processes files. A current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari is all you need; OCR on very long documents is slower on phones.

Privacy

No document files are ever uploaded

Most online converter websites upload your file to their remote cloud servers. PDFNEO operates strictly on-device, keeping your business data private.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything about converting PDFs to Word documents with PDFNEO.

How do I convert a PDF to Word for free?
Simply drop your PDF above and PDFNEO compiles it into a Word file instantly. You can download the .docx file immediately - 100% free with no email required.
Is this conversion safe and private?
Yes. PDFNEO does not upload your PDF to any third-party servers. All text extraction and DOCX generation happen client-side in the browser.
Does the output support tables and complex designs?
This client-side tool extracts selectable text lines and groups them into standard text paragraphs. Complex layout tables, shapes, and background graphics are not currently recreated in the DOCX.
Can I convert scanned PDFs to Word?
Yes, with the optional OCR fallback. A scanned PDF has no selectable text, so turn on OCR and PDFNEO will recognise the text on those pages and add it to the Word file. You can also run the OCR PDF tool first. OCR accuracy depends on scan quality.
Will the Word document work in Google Docs and LibreOffice?
Yes. The output is a standard Office Open XML (.docx) file that opens perfectly in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Apple Pages, LibreOffice, and other modern office suites.
